Safe Motherhood for all would like to recognise all midwives on The International Day of the Midwife 2016. We also thank the midwives for the safe they provide child bearing women.
Do you know that; women who partner with a midwife for maternity care are less likely to have an episiotomy or instrumental birth, less likely to have a preterm birth or loss of the foetus before 24 weeks gestation, and more likely to have a spontaneous vaginal birth (Cochrane, 2013).
This outcome is very relevant to the long term health of a mother and her baby. We know postnatal depression is linked to instrumental birth, caesarean section, and the separation of mother and baby. It is also known Maternal Mood Disorders predispose infants to a range of adverse psychological conditions later in life.
Midwives Deliver to our community by providing safe and respectful maternity care.
